Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Order of the Arrow Elections

posted Jan 22, 2017, 10:23 AM by Troop Webmaster
The troop will be conducting Patrol Leader (PL) and Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) elections during the troop meeting on January 23rd.  Individuals interested in running for SPL should notify Mr. Hansford right away if they have not already done so.  SPL candidates will have the opportunity to make a brief speech to the troop on their qualifications and goals they would implement for the troop during their six months in that leadership role during the January 23rd meeting.  New PLs and the new SPL will be installed at the January 30th Court of Honor.

To be an eligible SPL candidate, scouts must meet the following criteria.
  • 1st Class - be at least 15 years of age by January 30th (installation date)
  • Star Scout - be at least 14 year of age by January 30th
  • Life Scout - be at least 13 years of age by January 30th
  • Eagle Scout - be at least 12 years of age by January 30th
The troop will conduct Order of the Arrow (OA) elections during the January 30th Court of Honor.  The OA is the "honor society" of the Boy Scouts. It is intended to recognize scouts for their outdoor achievements, provide an avenue for community service, BSA fellowship and outdoor camping opportunities specific to the OA.  Candidates for the OA must meet the following criteria:
  • Be at least a First Class Scout rank
  • Have camped at least 15 days/nights, including at least one long term camp (such as summer camp) during the two year period immediately prior to election
  • Receive a "yes vote" from at least fifty percent of the scouts in his troop.  This is not a competitive vote.  Scouts may vote for multiple candidates and multiple candidates may be submitted to the local OA Lodge.
Once elected, individuals will still be required to complete their OA Ordeal for initial acceptance as a Arrowman in the OA.
